Topping coverage of Egypt in the foreign press this morning: A fishing boat carrying at least 19 people has capsized in Lake Mariut near Alexandria, killing at least nine people — including three children. The incident likely occurred because the boat was small and overloaded, Alexandria governor Mohamed El Sherif said late Monday after arriving on the scene. The espionage trial of suspected Egyptian-born spy Amin K., a former employee of Germany's Federal Press Office, started in Berlin yesterday, Deutsche Welle reports. The 66-year-old man is accused of getting intel for Egypt's General Intelligence Service between 2010 and 2019, and attempting to recruit another spy. The case was set to begin in January but got postponed due to covid-19. The accused could be imprisoned for five years if found guilty of espionage.
