Watering down the Civil Service Act was not enough, now the 7% annual raises will be applied retroactively starting from last July once the act becomes law, according to statements attributed to Planning Minister Ashraf Al Araby, Youm7 reports. Civil servants who have already received their annual raises this fiscal year can rejoice that their pay is getting significantly larger at the expense of the state budget. Oh, and speaking of the act: The final vote originally due to have taken place on Tuesday may be postponed to Sunday as a quorum was not reached, Al Mal reports. Procedurally, the act must be reviewed by the Egyptian Council of State (Maglis El Dowla) if the House makes any amendments to the law prior to the vote. The bill then gets sent back to the House for a final vote.
