Solar Impulse 2 lands in Cairo

Solar-powered plane Solar Impulse 2 landed in Cairo yesterday morning after a 48-hour trip from Seville, Spain. The plane’s pilot, Swiss adventurer Andre Borschberg, celebrated flying over the Pyramids by eating Swiss cheese — cut, of course, using a Swiss Army knife. From Egypt, Solar Impulse 2 will embark on the last leg of its ‘round-the-world endeavour by flying to Abu Dhabi, where the challenge began in March 2015. “Egypt is country where I had the idea to make that project,” Solar Impulse’s co-founder Bertrand Piccard said. You can watch the Solar Impulse 2’s landing and hear Piccard’s comments here (runtime 03:31).

BONUS: Reuters’ Amr Abdalla Dalsh has a great photo of what the FT says are two Egyptian ground crew on bicycles following Solar Impulse 2 as it’s about to touch down at CAI.
