Prime Minister Sherif Ismail formed a committee to formulate a comprehensive strategy to develop and better utilize the country’s water resources. The committee — made up of the ministries of irrigation, agriculture, planning, housing, and investment — is tasked with developing projects and timelines to achieve this strategy. Its goals and targets: identifying Egypt’s water needs; upgrading irrigation systems; preventing run-off water in agriculture irrigation; tapping into groundwater resources; developing reservoirs for collecting rainwater; and developing desalination plants.
