New York-based artist Shirin Neshat’s latest film Looking for Oum Kulthum is “a ‘film within a film’ telling the tale of an Iranian director by the name of Mitra … who is making a film about the legendary Egyptian singer,” Rebecca Anne Proctor reviews for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. “Looking for Oum Kulthum is ultimately about an iconic woman and the power of art to move a people during a time of social and political transition.
