On this day: 4 October

ON THIS DAY- On this day in 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first artificial Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, to space. Sputnik 1 was the first man-made object ever to leave the Earth’s atmosphere. Over a century earlier, the Orient Express departed on its first official journey from Paris to Istanbul in 1883. More recently, WikiLeaks was launched on this day in 2006. This time last year, Enterprise readers were reading about how we were edging closer to the brink of devaluation and about Naguib Sawiris going to war with the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority, after it raised questions about OTMT’s shareholder structure and blocked the acquisition of CI Capital. A year before that, we were taking note of our pal Erdogan saying he is not very interested in reconciling with Egypt.
