Cabinet gives new (workday) homes to old bureaucrats
The Ismail cabinet held its weekly meeting yesterday, with an agenda that focused on the organization of the elections, reviewing the latest figures of injured and missing hajj pilgrims and providing aid to their families, and a new strategy presented by the planning minister on meeting Egypt’s sustainability goals by 2030, according to the post-meeting press conference. Otherwise, key decisions taken include shuffling bureaucrats from newly-merged ministries to new reporting lines. Highlights:
- The staff and functions of the Technical Education & Vocational Ministry will be divided up among the ministries of Education and Technical Education, Trade and Industry, as well as Manpower and Immigration
- Staff and functions of the Ministry of State for Urban Renewal & Informal Settlement will now be placed under the Housing Ministry, while its environmental functions are to be transferred to the Environment Ministry
- The Ministry of State of Population, the National Population Council, and the National Council for Childhood & Motherhood will be part of the Health & Population Ministry.
- Stewardship of the Hirafyeen workshop district in Giza will be transferred from the Giza Governorate to the Investment Ministry, following a decision by the Cabinet’s economic committee on Wednesday, reports Al Mal. (The committee also agreed to study the possibility of constructing a gold refinery and smelter.)
- Restoration of buildings belonging to the Supreme Council for Pre-University Education, the Educational Projects Support Fund, and the General Authority for Educational Buildings will fall under the Education Ministry
