Egypt is ramping up its efforts to enhance relationships with Nile Basin countries, Al Monitor reports. A parliamentary committee has summoned seven ministries to the House of Representatives to discuss “reconnect[ing]” Egypt with Africa and expanding the presence of its civilian and military services. Such efforts include sending medical envoys to a number of African countries, including Ethiopia, potentially setting up an African Affairs Ministry, and becoming a member country of the African Radio Stations Union. Egypt signed an MoU with the Japan External Trade Organization in Kenya earlier this week following the TICAD summit on 27 August, where the Egyptian delegation also signed deals with other African nations with the aim of promoting African development.
